Finding the Easiest Way to Write a Research Paper
Working on a term paper does not have to be exhausting. There are proven techniques of doing it in an easy way – just follow the guidelines below.
- Choose a topic that is easy to research. This is the most important step in writing your paper easily. Do not crave for a perfect topic or something extremely original. Look through academic journals at your school library to see which issues are discussed most often. Select one of them as your research subject. The secret is to pick your topic according to the sources available, and not the other way around. By doing this, you will reduce your work by at least half.
- Photocopy pages from print sources that contain valuable information. Highlight or underline the phrases you want to cite. Although this is a simple trick, it can save much time you would otherwise spend taking notes.
- Start by creating your bibliography. It will be easier to write the body of your paper if you have a ready list of sources to be cited. Follow the appropriate academic style: APA, MLA, or other. Make sure that the total number of sources meets your paper requirements. You do not want to conduct a feverish search to add one or two missing items a few hours before your paper is due.
- Outline your paper. Draft your thesis statement and conclusion. Write at least three ideas as your main points between them. Add supporting pieces of evidence as sub-points. Compose topic sentences for each paragraph. If you take your time to make this sort of a detailed outline, it will save you a great amount of effort later. It is much easier to elaborate on your outline points than to start from a blank page.
- Cite each source as soon as you need to. Do not leave empty brackets to fill in later; you may simply forget about them. Keep your bibliography close at hand so this task will not be much trouble.
- Be smart in filling up your reference list. Many students find out that they are actually using much fewer sources than they are required to include in their bibliographies. There might be a book or an article that fits your topic perfectly, so you rely mainly on it. However, take a look at its reference section. The author probably derived some ideas from the work of others. Include these sources in your own reference list.
- Ask another person to proofread your completed paper for you. It is not only easier, but also more efficient than doing it by yourself.
